Web Accessibility & Usability
Web site accessibility and usability isn't something to be left to chance. It must be engineered into the design of a web site and based on objective principles, not subjective design whims.
Web Usability
The Internet's most successful sites are not the
most technical, but are easiest to use.Usability is more important in web design than almost any other engineering task. Consider the case of someone spending £500 on a video camera which has usability problems. This person is likely to invest a few hours figuring out how it works. Visitors to web sites, who are similarly confused, normally give it about 10 seconds before decided not to pursue the matter further.
An excellent guide
to web usability is developed and maintained by The American
National Institute for Cancer research.
It's their wish that Cancer related web sites do not impede the
dissemination of information due to sloppy design. We embrace these
recommendations.
Web Accessibility
We follow Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, and always keep a copy of the check list close to hand. These rules were developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) after a huge amount of research. They advise on how not to needlessly exclude potential visitors. These not only include technological issues, but also physical limitations, eg colour blindness.
Accessibility & Usability Auditing
We provide an accessibility and usability review service for those
with existing sites which are not producing the expected results.
The report includes everything from cross platform compatibility
to search engine optimization advice. There are 113 checkpoints
on the homepage alone.
The report highlights problems
and suggest remedies. Auditing costs from £69 for a basic site.
